This article walks you through creating a single product in ChemCheck, from entering the product name to uploading your Safety Data Sheet and optionally assigning a certification body.

01/ Introduction

Creating a product in ChemCheck follows a structured form with five sections. A product is saved in Draft status as soon as it is created. From there, it moves through review and certification before it can be published.

02/ Prerequisites

• You must be logged in as a Chemical Formulator.
• You must have a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) ready to upload as a PDF file (maximum 10 MB). DOC/DOCX files and URL links are not accepted.

03/ Steps

           Step 1 — Open the product creation form

1. In the top navigation, click ChemCheck.
2. In the left-hand navigation, click Products.
3. Click Create product in the top-right corner of the page.

4. In the dropdown, select Single product. A new product form opens.

   

   Step 2 — Enter product name and description

5. Enter the Product name. Any characters are accepted, including non-Latin scripts such as Chinese or Turkish.

6. Optionally, enter a ChemCheck description. This is a short description (maximum 500 characters) that summarises what the product does and its key benefits. This text can appear on the ChemCheck report PDF.

   Note: The product name is permanent. Once you save the product, the name is locked and cannot be changed. Check your spelling carefully before saving: it must match the name on your Safety Data Sheet. If you need to correct a name after saving, contact ZDHC customer support.

   Step 3 — Add local language names (optional)

7. To add a translated or alternative name, click Add local language name.

8. Enter the name. You can add up to 10 local language names per product.

   Note: Local language names must appear in the product's Safety Data Sheet. These are for translated names only. Commercial product names are not permitted here and may be removed by the ZDHC quality team.

   

   Step 4 — Add product classification

9. Click Add classification.
10. Select a Substrate from the dropdown.
11. Once a substrate is selected, select a Category from the next dropdown. Only categories relevant to the selected substrate are shown.
12. Once a category is selected, select a Use type from the next dropdown. Only use types relevant to the selected category are shown.

13. To add a second classification group, click Add classification again and repeat the process. You can add as many classification groups as needed.

    Note: From August 2026, a new product classification list is in effect. When creating new products after this date, you must use values from the new list.

    

    Step 5 — Upload Safety Data Sheet

14. Under Data sheets, click Upload SDS and select your PDF file. Maximum file size: 10 MB.

    Note: Uploading a Safety Data Sheet is mandatory. The product cannot be saved without one. Only PDF files are accepted — DOC/DOCX files and URL links are not supported.

15. Optionally, click Upload TDS to upload a Technical Data Sheet. This is not required.

    

    Step 6 — Assign certification bodies (optional)

16. To assign one or more certification bodies to this product, open the Certification bodies dropdown and select the relevant certification bodies.

17. If you do not wish to assign a certification body at this stage, leave this section empty. You can assign certification bodies later from the product detail page.

    Note: A certification body must be assigned before they can review and certify your product. Assigning them triggers the Under Review status. The certification body does not receive an automatic notification. Contact your certification body directly to let them know the product is ready, and share your product name and ID.

    Step 7 — Save the product

18. Review all sections (especially the product name), then click Save. The product is created and appears in your product portfolio with Draft status.

04/ After saving

Once the product is saved:

• It appears in your product portfolio with Draft status if no certification body was assigned, or Under Review if a certification body was assigned.
• You can click on the product in the portfolio to open the product detail page, where you can edit it, manage certification assignments, and eventually publish it.

05/ Tips & Notes

Tip: If you plan to have a certification body review your product, consider assigning them at the point of creation. This saves a step later.

Note: Products with a Draft status are not visible to any other organisation. They are only visible to users within your own organisation.
