This article explains how to edit an existing product in ChemCheck — what you can change, how to access the edit panel, and what to be aware of when a product is under review.
01/ Introduction
After a product is created, you can update some of its details from the product detail page. Edits are made via a side panel that opens on the right-hand side of the screen. Changes take effect immediately when saved.
Note: If your product was migrated from the previous version of the ZDHC Gateway before the relaunch and does not yet have a Safety Data Sheet attached, you must upload one before you can save any edits.
02/ Prerequisites
- You must be logged in as a chemical formulator.
- If the product was migrated without a Safety Data Sheet, you must have an SDS PDF file ready to upload before saving changes.
03/ What can be edited and what is locked
Which fields you can edit depends on whether the product is still in Draft status or has moved out of Draft (i.e. a CB has been assigned or a certification record exists).
| Field | In Draft | Out of Draft |
|---|---|---|
| Product name | Editable | Locked. Only ZDHC Support can change it |
| Local language names | Editable | Locked |
| Product classification | Editable | Locked. Only ZDHC Support can change it; changing it also invalidates all active certifications |
| Safety Data Sheet | Editable | Replaceable |
| ChemCheck description | Editable | Editable |
| Technical Data Sheet | Editable | Editable |
Warning: Changing a product's classification or substrate type removes all certification body assignments from the product. If you have already assigned CBs and then change these fields, the CBs will need to be re-assigned after saving.
04 /Steps
- Go to ChemCheck and then Products.
- Click on the product row you want to edit. The product detail page opens.
- Click Edit in the top-right corner of the page. The edit panel slides open on the right.
- Update the fields you are permitted to edit (see the table above).
- Click Save. The changes are applied immediately.
05/ What cannot be edited
The following are not editable from the edit panel:
- Product ID — this is assigned by the platform and is permanent.
- Certification body assignments — these are managed separately via the Manage assignments button on the Certificates tab.
- Product status — status changes are driven by certification body actions and the publish toggle, not by editing.
- Product name, local language names, and classification — locked once the product moves out of Draft. Contact ZDHC Support to request changes to the name or classification.
06/ Editing a product that is Under Review
Currently, some product fields can be edited regardless of status, including while the product is Under Review with a certification body.
Note: Editing a product while it is Under Review may affect the certification body's assessment. If a CB is actively reviewing your product, contact them before making changes.
Note: This behaviour (allowing some edits while Under Review) may change in a future platform release.
