This article explains when you can restart the ClearStream testing workflow, what a restart does, and the circumstances in which restarting is not permitted.

01/ Introduction

Although the Restart journey button remains visible on the ClearStream workflow page at all times, whether a restart is allowed depends on your current process stage.

Restarting starts a new ClearStream testing cycle from Step 1, creating a new record while all previous cycles remain available in Reports & Insights.

02/ Pre-requisites

When you can restart

Restarting is permitted in the following situations:

  • You are at Step 1 or Step 2 (Begin wastewater testing or Determine test type) and have not yet submitted a laboratory request.
  • You are at Step 3 (Choose laboratory) and have not yet submitted a request to a ZDHC Approved Wastewater Laboratory.
  • You are at Step 3, and a request was submitted, but the laboratory declined it — either actively or due to the automatic 2-week expiry.
  • You have completed a full testing cycle — meaning you have reached Step 7 and either accepted or declined the results. Once a cycle is complete, a new cycle can be started.

When you cannot restart

Restarting is not permitted if:

  • A laboratory request is currently pending — that is, submitted but not yet accepted or declined by the laboratory.
  • If a laboratory accepts your request, the testing cycle must continue to completion and cannot be cancelled or restarted while in progress.

Note: Once a laboratory accepts your request, neither party can cancel the project until the testing cycle is complete. This design makes acceptance a binding agreement between the supplier and laboratory. Contact ZDHC if you need an exception.

03/ What happens when you restart

When you click Restart journey and confirm:

  • The current in-progress cycle is closed.
  • A new cycle begins from Step 1.
  • All previous cycle data — including earlier test results, reports, and RCA/CAP entries — remains accessible from the Reports & Insights section. Nothing is deleted.

Tip: To correct the facility profile from Step 2, restart the journey before a laboratory accepts your request.
