Knowledge base

This guide is your starting point for ChemCheck. It walks you through the essential steps to get your first product certified and visible in the ZDHC Gateway.

01/ Introduction

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Logged in to ZDHC Gateway and selected Chemical Formulator as your organisation type
  • Your Safety Data Sheet (SDS) ready as a file (PDF, DOC, or DOCX — URL links are no longer supported)
  • The name of the certification body you want to work with

02/ Steps

1. Understand your portfolio

Your products live in the ChemCheck module, under Your Portfolio. This is where you create, manage, and publish chemical products.

Start here: Your product portfolio: an overview

2. Create your first product

Creating a product involves four steps:

  1. Enter the product name and basic details
  2. Classify the product using the ZDHC classification list
  3. Upload your Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
  4. Save the product. It is created in Draft status

Read: How to create a product

Tip: A product must have a valid SDS uploaded before a certification body can review it. Have your SDS ready before you begin.

3. Assign a certification body

Once your product is created, go to the Certificates tab on the product detail page and assign the certification body you want to review it. The CB will see the product in their queue immediately.

Read: How to assign certification bodies to your product

Note: The platform does not notify the CB automatically. Contact your CB directly after assigning to let them know the product is ready for review.

4. Wait for the certification review

Once you have assigned a CB, the product status changes to Under Review. The CB will:

  • Select or upload an SDS for review
  • Assign MRSL certification levels (and optionally CTZ levels)
  • Or, if something is wrong, decline the assignment with a written reason

You can track progress at any time on the Certificates tab of the product detail page.

Read: Understanding product statuses

5. Publish your product

Once the CB has issued a certification, your product status changes to Accepted. At this point you can publish the product to make it visible in the Gateway search.

Read: How to publish a product

Tip: Publishing is a separate manual step. Accepted products are not automatically made public. You control when a product appears in search.
