This guide is your starting point for ChemCheck as an approved ZDHC MRSL Certifier. It explains what to expect, where to go, and how to work through your first product assignment from start to finish.
01/ Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- Logged in to ZDHC Gateway and selected Certification Body as your organisation type
- Access to ChemCheck confirmed (visible in the top navigation)
- A product assigned to your organisation by a chemical formulator — if you have not yet received an assignment, contact the formulator directly to confirm they have assigned your organisation
02/ Understand what you can see
As a certification body, your primary workspace in ChemCheck is the Approvals overview — a table of all products that have been assigned to your organisation by Chemical Formulators.
03/ Open a product assignment
Click any row in the Approvals table to open the product review panel. This is the side panel where you carry out all certification actions.
The review panel has several sections, worked through from top to bottom:
- Product header (name, formulator, status)
- Current assignment details
- SDS selection
- Certificates (ZDHC MRSL and CtZ)
- Decline option
04/ SDS selection
Before you can add any certificate, you must select an SDS. This links your certification to a specific version of the Safety Data Sheet.
Note: Choose Use formulator SDS in most cases. Choose Use CB SDS if the product has no SDS on file (common for migrated products) or if your process requires a copy of your own.
05/ Add an MRSL certificate
Once an SDS is selected, you can add MRSL certificates. Click Add (+) certificate to open the certificate form. Fill in the MRSL standard, certificate dates, and the Chemicals to Zero designation, then click Save certificate. The certificate is immediately active — there is no submit button and no formulator action required.
The platform always displays the highest active ZDHC MRSL level across all certificates.
Tip: Check the Understanding your ZDHC MRSL standards page to confirm which standards your organisation is currently accredited to certify before reviewing a product.
06/ Select the Chemicals to Zero designation
The Chemicals to Zero (CtZ) designation is selected as part of the same certificate form as the ZDHC MRSL standard — it is not a separate step. When filling in the certificate form, choose the CtZ level from the dropdown. The available levels depend on the ZDHC MRSL level of the selected standard and your organisation's CtZ accreditation.
07/ Close the panel
Once you have saved your certificate(s), close the review panel. The updated certification levels are immediately reflected in the Approvals overview table and are visible to the chemical formulator on their product's Certificates tab.
08/ What if you need to decline?
If the product does not meet the requirements for certification, you can formally decline the assignment from the bottom of the review panel. A written reason is mandatory.
09/ Tracking your work
Use the Activity log (left-hand navigation) to see a full audit trail of all actions taken by your organisation in ChemCheck.
