Knowledge base

This article is the primary reference for reviewing a product assignment in ChemCheck. It walks through the full review panel from top to bottom, explaining each section and the actions available at each step.

01/ Introduction

When you click on a product row in the Approvals overview, a review panel opens on the right-hand side of the screen. This panel is the complete workspace for reviewing and managing the product assignment.

The review process includes the following steps:

  1. Product header — View the product name, formulator and current status.
  2. Current assignment details — Review the details of the assignment.
  3. SDS selection — Select the specific Safety Data Sheet (SDS) version that the certification will be linked to.
  4. MRSL certifications — Review and assign the applicable MRSL certifications.
  5. Chemicals to Zero certifications — Review and assign the applicable Chemicals to Zero certifications separately from MRSL certifications.
  6. Decline option — Decline the assignment if required, providing a mandatory written reason.

Certifications are saved automatically when you change a certification toggle. There is no separate save button.

Each certification is linked to the specific SDS version selected during the review process.

Each section is described in detail below.

02/ Sections

1. Product header

At the top of the panel, you see:

  • Product name — the name of the chemical product
  • Formulator name — the organisation that created and assigned the product
  • Status (top-right) — the current status of the assignment: Under Review, Accepted, or Declined

2. Current assignment details

Below the header, the Current assignment section shows:

Field Description
Product name Repeated for reference
Status Current assignment status
Assignment date The date the formulator assigned your organisation to this product
Last updated The date of the most recent action on this assignment

3. SDS selection

⚠️ This step is required before any certification can be assigned. The MRSL and CTZ sections below are locked until an SDS has been selected.

Every certification must be linked to a specific version of the Safety Data Sheet. This creates an auditable link between the document that was reviewed and the certification issued.

You have two options:

Option A: Use the formulator's SDS

Select Use formulator SDS to review and certify against the SDS that the Chemical Formulator has uploaded to the product. The file is displayed and can be downloaded directly from the panel.

This is the standard option for most products.

Option B: Use your own SDS

Select Use CB SDS to upload your own version of the Safety Data Sheet. This option is available when:

  • The product was migrated from the old ZDHC Gateway and has no SDS on file (migrated products may lack a file if the original SDS was stored as a URL)
  • The formulator's SDS is incomplete or an older version
  • Your accreditation process requires using your own copy of the document

When you select Use CB SDS, you can upload a file (PDF, DOC, or DOCX, max 10 MB). The uploaded file is stored against this assignment and becomes the basis for any certifications you issue.

Once an SDS option is selected, the MRSL certifications section unlocks.

4. MRSL certifications

Once an SDS is selected, the MRSL certifications table becomes available. See How to assign MRSL certifications for a full step-by-step guide to this section.

Summary: The table lists all MRSL standards your organisation is accredited to assign to this product. Each row represents one standard (name, MRSL version, level, expiration date, status). Toggle a row on to activate that certification. Toggles auto-save immediately — there is no separate save action required.

The assigned MRSL level is displayed below the table, showing the highest active level across all toggled standards.

5. Chemicals to Zero certifications

The CTZ certifications section becomes available only when your organisation has at least one active Level 2 or Level 3 MRSL certification toggled on for this product. If no qualifying MRSL is active, the CTZ section remains hidden.

See How to assign Chemicals to Zero certifications for a full step-by-step guide.

Summary: Works in the same way as the MRSL table — toggle rows to activate CTZ certifications. Auto-saves immediately.

6. Decline option

At the bottom of the panel, if the assignment is currently Under Review, a Decline button is available.

Clicking it opens a confirmation modal that requires you to enter a written reason for the decline. This reason is mandatory and will be visible to the Chemical Formulator. See How to decline a product assignment.

03/ Auto-save behaviour

All toggle actions in the MRSL and CtZ tables save automatically to the database the moment they are changed. A confirmation toast notification is shown after each successful save. You do not need to click a save or submit button.

When you close the side panel, the updated MRSL and CtZ levels are immediately reflected in the Approvals overview table.
