The scope of the ZDHC MMCF Guidelines V3.0 covers acetate fibres, including both cellulose diacetate and cellulose triacetate. The current technical requirements and module references, however, were developed primarily around cellulose diacetate manufacturing and therefore focus mainly on acetone-based solvent recovery and monitoring.

Through ongoing implementation and stakeholder engagement, ZDHC recently became aware of and engaged with the only currently known manufacturer worldwide producing cellulose triacetate fibre. This manufacturing process uses dichloromethane (DCM) and methanol rather than acetone, so existing acetone-specific references do not fully apply to this production route.

The addendum does not introduce a new fibre category into the Guidelines or address a previous omission. It provides a process-specific clarification that enables cellulose triacetate, which is already within the acetate-fibre scope, to be assessed consistently under the current ZDHC MMCF framework, with an emphasis on the recovery of applicable solvents. All other applicable MMCF requirements remain unchanged.
