I am currently a ZDHC accepted laboratory for the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines v1.1, do I need to apply again for the ZDHC Wastwater Guideline v2.1?

Yes, all current ZDHC accepted laboratories also need to follow the application process to become accepted for ZDHC Wastwater Guideline v2.1 as well. All laboratories and certifiers can start their application process for ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines v2.1 acceptance, from 1 April 2022 onwards.

What are the acceptance criteria for becoming a ZDHC Wastwater Guideline v2.1 accepted laboratory?

In order to apply for acceptance as a ZDHC Wastewater Testing Laboratory, the applicant laboratory must request acceptance for all of the parameters listed on the ZDHC Wastewater Guideline. Additionally, the following is required for each parameter listed on the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines:

  • ISO 17025 certification for all MRSL parameters
  • ISO 17025 certification for at least 50% of the conventional parameters. Successful completion of correlation testing for those parameters not ISO 17025 certified.
  • ZDHC Approved Test methods
  • Laboratory level of quantification for each test method that is determined using ISO/TS 13530:2009 4.4.7 and equal to or below the lowest ZDHC discharge limit
  • Level of detection for each test method that is determined using ISO/TS 13530:2009 4.4.3
  • Follow/Apply the ZDHC Wastewater and Sludge Laboratory Sampling and Analysis Plan
  • All questions must be answered in full unless otherwise specified. If a laboratory cannot test certain parameters in-house, ZDHC accepts up to 50% of parameters to be tested by an outsourced laboratory (which may be an affiliate of, or external to, the laboratory accredited for testing and which does a specific test or job contracted to it to facilitate the accredited laboratory in their scope of work).
