To address the use and discharge of chemicals in wood-based dissolved pulp manufacturing, ZDHC has created the Dissolved Pulp Guidelines. Dissolved pulp is the primary feedstock for producing man-made cellulosic fibres. We have developed these guidelines to enhance the transparency of responsible production in the entire MMCF supply chain, from wood sourcing to production. It includes chemical recovery, wastewater and air emission requirements for wood-based dissolved pulp facilities.
-
Wood as feedstock/input for dissolved pulp production
-
Pulping processes: (1) Kraft (sulphate) pulping process (2) Sulphite pulping process
-
Bleaching process: (1) Total chlorine-free (2) Elemental chlorine-free
Reclaimed textile waste as feedstock for DP manufacturing and elemental chlorine-based bleaching of pulp (no longer used in the industry) are out of scope.
