What is the frequency of air emission parameters testing as per updated MMCF V2.2?
Air emission by mass balance:
Sulphur air emissions for VSF facilities and acetone air emission for acetate facilities is calculated using mass balance.
The reporting frequency for the mass balance calculation is based on an annual verification. The reporting cycles run from 1st January to 31st December within the same calendar year. The data is reported in the MMCF Module (on the ZDHC Supplier platform)
Ambient air emission measurement:
Ambient air testing of CS2 & H2S is applicable for VSF/modal and VFY facilities and NH3 is applicable to cupro manufacturing facilities.
The testing cycle for direct monitoring of ambient air emissions is annual average sampling and testing or air dispersion modelling data from 1st January to 31st December within the same calendar year.
Wherever there are non-conformities with the MMCF Air Emissions Guidelines requirements, facilities shall identify the root cause, resolve the issue and retest ambient air as often as necessary to ensure the issue has been resolved.
How do air emissions need to be monitored by MMCF facilities?
Sulphur air emissions for VSF and acetone air emissions for acetate fibre need to be calculated by using mass balance calculation. The air emission using mass balance is calculated based on the yearly average of the calendar year and the data is reported in the MMCF Module (on the ZDHC Supplier Platform)
CS2 and H2S ambient air emissions produced from viscose, modal and VFY production and NH3 ambient air emissions produced from cupro production need to be measured in the surrounding area of the production facility either by direct monitoring (sampling and testing by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory) or from air dispersion modelling. In both cases, the reported value is the estimated yearly average of the calendar year and the data is reported in the MMCF Module (on the ZDHC Supplier Platform).
